Oaklawn Elementary has been named the Mid-America Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Rising Star” for the 2018-2019 school year. Oaklawn received this recognition for showing the largest increase in donations out of nearly 440 schools. Oaklawn raised $2,214.30 in 2017-2018 and $4,084.43 for 2018-2019 - an increase of $1,870.10. Oaklawn has participated in fund raising for LLS every year since 2005, and their cumulative total is $21,362.69! 

Tammie Middendorf, Oaklawn Elementary Teacher shared, “We have been participating in this program for many years, our students and families have always done a tremendous job collecting for this worthy cause. This is a project that has been near and dear to our hearts for many years.” 

The mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
